Expressing Worship Through Dance
December 8, 2009 at 9:22 PM | Posted in Devotions | Comments OffDeuteronomy 6:13 “Fear the LORD your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name.”
This verse pretty much explains itself. We need to express worship to God in whatever we do. And this includes in dance. Some people dance for fame. Some people dance inappropriately. But as a Christian, you should dance solely for the Lord.
- He has different purposes and wants from different people/churches.
- Pay attention to the leaders’ opinions/goals. And spend time asking older people that are close to God about your plans.
- Dance differently for different audiences.
- Stay really close to God, and He will show through you.
- Add emotion to your dances.
- Reach out to people even when you aren’t dancing, evangelize!
This message is mainly for the dancer, but its aspects can be used for anyone.
What is your excuse?
December 3, 2009 at 8:01 PM | Posted in Devotions | Comments Off“I can’t hold out and live a Christian life.” — “I don’t believe in Hell.” — “I can work out my own Salvation.”
These three sentences are excuses that people say when they don’t want to face their sin. And there isn’t much that we can say in defense… we can only look to the Scriptures. God’s Word has an answer for everything; “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)
1. I can’t hold out and live a Christian life.
Jeremiah 33:3
“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”
2 Timothy 4:18
“And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen!”
2. I don’t believe in Hell.
Psalm 9:17
“The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.”
1 Corinthians 6:9-10
“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.”
3. I can work out my own Salvation.
John 8:24
“Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”
Romans 3:10-12
“There is none righteous, no, not one. there is none who understands; there is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside; they have together become unprofitable. There is none who does good, no, not one.”
Excerpts from The Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God Published 1918.
Dancing Among Others
November 11, 2009 at 4:47 AM | Posted in Devotions | Comments OffGod has given us many different kinds of worship. He deserves all of our attention all the time. Some of those kinds of worship are through singing, through prayer, through reading your bible, and also dancing. Through dance you can praise God with your talent or anything you are capable of. So we have two questions here that challenge us daily; we hope that they encourage you.
What will people think?
It says in 1 Samuel 16:7 “…The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” As Christians, we need to strive to please God instead of man. That is hard for everyone; but we still have to do it. If home is where the heart is, our hearts should be thinking on God and Heavenly things, not things of this world.
Which crowd will accept my dancing as worship?
A church. But you have to be careful in what way you worship in certain churches. We all serve the same true God, but there are different beliefs in that. So in some places you might offend, while in other places you can encourage. In Psalm 100:2 “Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy.” Singing, Dancing, Shouting, and Praying all fit into the category of Worship. Use your own discernment and search the Scriptures to find God’s desire for you.
Are You Desperate Enough Yet?
October 21, 2009 at 1:37 PM | Posted in Devotions | Comments OffWhat will it take for God to get your full and complete attention? Once you realize how important you are to Him, you will want to give Him everything you’ve got. But that is part of the deception of this life. Satan and the world are trying to get your attention and deceive you, but God is in the business of allowing things to occur in your life to get your focus on Him and His word.
Mark 5:22,23 says,
“And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet, And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.”
A ruler of a synagogue coming to Jesus at that time was a very big deal. His reputation could have been destroyed. He could have lost his position, business contacts, and lots of friends. The question became whether his little daughter was more important to him or his position? God moved the ruler to the position of choosing the world or Him, and it caused him to fall at the feet of the only hope that he had: The Lord Jesus Christ. What is the Lord going to have to do in your life to get your full and complete attention?
Mark 5:25-34 tells us,
“And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing. But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.”
Have you reached the point yet that the only answer you will look for is the Son of God and no one else? This woman had reached that point. Twelve years with this affliction was enough. All the doctors and all the money in the world couldn?t solve her problem. She had only one hope left, but oh my, what a hope He was! She had to get through the multitude to get to Jesus. Was He worth it? She knew the answer. Do you know that answer?
Save Yourself Some Pain
October 13, 2009 at 2:39 PM | Posted in Devotions | Comments OffBecoming a Christian is the most incredible event that will ever take place in your life. You have found peace with your Creator. You have found everlasting life! Be assured–God will never leave you nor forsake you. He has brought you this far and He will complete the wonderful work He has begun in you. God knows your every thought, your every care and your deepest concerns.
Let’s now look at some of those possible concerns. First, and of primary concern — do you have “assurance” of your salvation? The Bible says to “make your calling and election sure” (2 Peter 1:10, italics added), so, let’s go through a short “checklist” to make sure that you are truly saved:
Are you aware that God became flesh in the person of Jesus Christ (John 1:14, KJV), and that he died for the sins of the world?
Did you come to the Savior because you had sinned?
Did you “repent” and put your faith in Jesus?
Are you convinced that He suffered and died on the Cross and that He rose again on the third day?
God acquits us from the Courtroom of Eternal Justice on the grounds that Jesus Christ paid our fine. We are “justified” (made right with God) by His suffering death. The resurrection of Jesus Christ was God’s seal of approval of the fact that His precious blood was sufficient to pay the fine.
Think of it this way… You have violated the law and face a $50,000 fine. You tell the judge that you are truly sorry for your crime, but he answers, “So you should be — you have broken the law! Now, can you pay this fine?” He can only acquit you if the fine is paid. If someone else pays your fine, then he can let you go, but he must have “grounds” on which to release you.
The reason we need a substitute (a savior) to pay our moral “fine,” is because we have broken God’s Law. To see how much we have transgressed this Law (the Ten Commandments), we will go through some of them — Have you ever told a lie? Have you ever stolen something? Have you ever lusted after another person? If you answered “Yes” to these questions, you admit that you are a lying, thieving, adulterer at heart, and you have to face God on Judgment Day! If you have used His name in vain, then you are guilty of “blasphemy” — you’ve substituted God’s holy Name for a curse word. Perhaps you’ve hated someone, then the Bible says that you are a murderer. You have violated God’s holy Law, and you’re in BIG trouble. On Judgment Day, you will be found guilty and end up in Hell. That’s why you need the Savior. Merely being sorry for your sins, or confessing them to God won’t help you. You must turn from sin (repent), and your faith must be in Jesus Christ alone. He is the only “grounds” for God to grant mercy towards you. If you’re not sure of your salvation, make Psalm 51 your own prayer.
The Koran Testimony
October 6, 2009 at 8:03 PM | Posted in Devotions | Comments OffThe Koran testifies in many verses in favor of the Bible and its infallibility. Let’s look at several: “…But they have the Torah where there is the Ordinance of God….and they have the Torah where there is guidance and light by which the prophets judge.” (V:43-48) “And We have given Moses the Book, and followed up after Him by messengers, and We gave Jesus the Son of Mary clear scriptures, and We upheld Him with the Holy Spirit… and We gave Him the gospel where there is guidance and admonition unto the godly.” (II:86) The Koran also emphasized that the Bible is the Law of God, which cannot be changed, when it said, “The Law of those whom We sent before you (i.e. before Mohammed), of Messengers, and thou shalt not find altering to Our Law. (Surahs XVII:& XXXIII:62, VI:34, XXXV:24 &44)
The Koran describes the Bible as “Guidance and light unto the world; a message and admonition unto the Godly; the ordinance and the judgement of God; the Law of God; and the Word of God.” How then can a man, whether they are a Muslim or anyone else, dare oppose the very person of God? When Muslims say that the Bible has been tampered with, they are directly accusing God of not being mighty enough to preserve His Word and His Law. The question for you is: Are you ready to stand before God on Judgment Day and charge Him with that accusation?
Using Tenacity in Christianity
September 26, 2009 at 2:57 AM | Posted in Devotions | Comments OffTags: Christianity, Lecrae, Tenacity
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the word tenacity as: “not readily letting go of, giving up, or separated from an object that one holds, a position, or a principle…”
We need to be aggressive for God; we must not let go. We have to do what He says in Matthew 28:19-20: (Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”) “Go!” He says, “Go, and tell the whole world about ME!“
You see, God is a holy and jealous God. The soul purpose of creating us on this earth is to glorify Him. He doesn’t want for anyone or anything else to get any glory. He wants us to spread His news all the time for His glory… and we have to do this with all of our hearts. We cannot place one foot in the circle of evangelism, and have the other one in a circle of cowardliness. We have to have both feet either implanted in evangelism, or cowardliness. (Revelation 3:16 “So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”)
No one should be ashamed of sharing their faith. That is the same as being ashamed of God. (Romans 1:16 “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.”) We need to be like Paul, eager and hopeful. A stanza from the song Heaven or Hell by Lecrae Moore : Put my God on a shelf? Naw Dawg I’d rather hang myself!/Forgive me if I can’t contain myself!/Cause if YOU DIED, and didn’t hear the Gospel, than dog I blame MYSELF!.
We shouldn’t exactly blame ourselves because we couldn’t reach someone, but we should spread the good news wherever we go. Two people die per second, and there are a lot of lives out there. We can share the gospel at a superstore! People across the world aren’t the only unsaved; unsure if they’d go to Heaven when they die. Hell is real, folks. Do what you can to make it’s population diminutive. Changing lives one at a time.
Tears streamed from my eyes as I watched my friends and acquaintances condemned one by one. A man I sat next to on a plane. My girlfriend from college who had freely admitted that she was an atheist. I remembered that I had been more concerned about how ‘macho’ she thought I was than I had been about this day. She pulled away from the Angel and burst into tears as she bawled, “Why didn’t you say something, David? I would have listened!” Then she screamed as she was cast into Hell. Her screams echoed in my mind over and over again.

Charles Spurgeon
September 21, 2009 at 12:59 PM | Posted in Devotions | Comments OffBorn in Kelvedon, Essex, Spurgeon’s conversion to Christianity came on January 6th, 1850, at the age of fifteen. On his way to a scheduled appointment, a snow storm forced him to cut short his intended journey and to turn into a Primitive Methodist chapel in Colchester where, in his own words: “God opened his heart to the salvation message.” The text that moved him was Isaiah 45:22 – “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth, for I am God, and there is none else.” Later that year, on April 4, 1850, he was admitted to the church at Newmarket. His baptism followed on May 3rd in the river Lark, at Isleham. Later that same year he moved to Cambridge. He preached his first sermon in the winter of 1850/1851 in a cottage at Teversham, Cambridge; from the beginning of his ministry his style and ability were considered to be far above average. In the same year, he was installed as pastor of the small Baptist church at Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire, where he published his first literary work: a Gospel tract written in 1853. In his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to around 10,000,000 people, often up to 10 times a week at different places. His sermons have been translated into many languages. Spurgeon was the pastor of the congregation of the New Park Street Chapel (later the Metropolitan Tabernacle) in London for 38 years. He was part of several controversies with the Baptist Union of Great Britain, and later had to leave that denomination. In 1857, he started a charity organization called Spurgeon’s which now works globally. He also founded Spurgeon’s College, which was named after him after his death. Spurgeon was a prolific author of many types of works including sermons, an autobiography, a commentary, books on prayer, a devotional, a magazine, and more. Many sermons were transcribed as he spoke and were translated into many languages during his lifetime. Arguably, no other author, Christian or otherwise, has more material in print than C.H. Spurgeon. A quote from Charles Spurgeon that really rings your bell: “Sin and Hell are married, unless repentance proclaims a divorce.”
